Jardin Secret

In the medieval castle’s courtyard, in a green cradle of vines and rose bushes, the Jardin Secret offers a creative and refined cuisine with vegetables and edible plants from our garden.


Indeed, the restaurant is inspired by the Rivau gardens and the Touraine nature. In our vegetable garden, we cultivate with love old and indigenous vegetables. A garden of wild edible plants add new flavours to our meals. The menu is dictated by our terroir and the seasons. It changes according to the vegetables that come out of the ground and to the produce of our neighbouring craftsmen and farmers. Our aim is clear : to bring out the very essence of the food and to bring out the best in the produce without spoiling it.


The restaurant’s atmosphere is intimate as there are only 20 covers. The room offers a privileged view over the park, in a timeless setting. The tufa stone of the castle is enhanced by the greenery of the gardens, which can be admired from the restaurant. To perfect your experience, guests at Jardin Secret can visit the gardens and castle for free (please note that for security reasons, it is not possible to walk in the gardens after dinner). All the ingredients are there for a magical and memorable meal !

In 2024, Chef Andrea Modesto takes over the kitchen at Le Jardin Secret

Andrea Modesto used to work as a second-in-command at Joël Robuchon’s restaurant. His fusion cuisine with Loire accents reinterprets the key products of the Loire Valley with a healthy dose of Italian flavour in the intimate restaurant Le Jardin Secret at Château du Rivau, which seats just 20.


Andrea skilfully combines local produce, vegetables and flowers from the gardens of Le Rivau with the flavours of his native Italy. The Chef bakes his own bread so as not to distort the flavours of his food !


Andrea is also committed to zero waste and sustainability, while composing an ode to the flowers and vegetables of the garden through his invigorating flavours that exalt the cuisine of the Loire Valley.


A fine list of Loire wines is available to complement the food and wine pairings in the bucolic setting of the rose-garden greenhouse that houses Le Jardin Secret in the heart of the medieval castle.

Practical informations

Our gastronomic restaurant is located 15 minutes from Chinon and 45 minutes from Tours, Saumur and Poitiers.


Our menus :

Menu at € 59 lunch and dinner (Amuse-bouche, Starter, Main course, dessert)

Degustation menu at € 89 (6-course menu and chef’s surprise) : 89 € (on reservation, at least 48h before)

Lunch menu from Tuesday to Friday at € 33 (Starter/ Main course or Main course/dessert)

For children under 12 years old, we propose a formula with a dish and a dessert for 25 €.
For vegetarians, the chef will prepare a vegetarian menu. Please let us know about it at least 24h before.

The visit of the castle and its fairy tale gardens is free for the guest of the restaurant Jardin Secret.
For security reasons, it is not possible to walk in the gardens after dinner.
