The Château Rivau Art Collection. :

"La Forêt qui court" (the running forrest) created by Jerome Basserode is a stunning example of the Rivau's ambition to exhibit today's art creation. The Art pieces displayed follow two main themes: the first one is the protection of Nature.

Jerome Basserode created "la Forêt qui court" between 1997 and 1999. The five pairs of articulated legs were fixed to trees chosen by the artist and maintained by collars which had been homologated by the "French Institute of Water and Forest" so that they would not hinder the growth of the trees. This art piece is meant to remind us of the fragility of Nature.

Following the same thematic, Phillippe Ramette created a "Piercing" that serves as jewelry to the most beautiful tree of the gardens of the Rivau.
Jean-Luc Bichaud 's "Nid" (Nest)  bigger stresses the urgent necessity to protect the birds and animals of the countryside.

The other main theme of the Rivau's art collection is Fairy tales and Fantasy.
With "A mon seul désir", Cécile Pitois, (lien vers http://www.cecilepitois.org/) enthrals the visitor, transporting him in the land of fairytales as he has to decide how the tale will end.
Fabien Verschaere (http://www.michelrein.com/AR_Cv.lasso?Artistes::Artiste=Fabien%20Verschaere)
created "Novel for Life" specifically for the fairytale gardens of the Rivau. This group of phantasmagoric ceramic sculptures peoples the fountain of the castle. An ode to the imagination, they seem to come straight out of our childhood dreams.

Artists invited to display in the gardens of the chateau Rivau.

The Chateau du Rivau presents a new approach to the visit of a private historical site. Every year, two artists are invited to display a piece of art that starts a dialogue with the permanent collection.
This year, the Chateau du Rivau exhibits a sculpture by the French Vietnamese artist Nicole Tran Ba Vang.

Nicole Tran Ban Vang who was presented at the CCC of Tours (Center for contemporary Art), is famous for her photographic work. She comes from the world of fashion and plays with artistic codes and visual language. Her work questions the cult of appearance with humor and triviality.

« Après la pluie » (After the Rain) is the artist's first sculpture. She was inspired by her own Asian origin but also took her effort to both discover and disguise the body on to 3 dimensions. Her sculpture takes the form of the traditional sake glass in which one can distinguish an erotic figure. This is only possible however, when the glass is full of sake. The image disappears when the glass is emptied and the drinker has to choose between the pleasure of the beverage or the beauty of the picture.

Nicole Tran Ba Vang's sake glass also evokes the gigantic baroque vases that are often found in traditional gardens. It poetically invades the world of plants by reaping rain water. The pleasure of making out the blurry image at the bottom of the glass will thus depend on the whims of Nature.

« La fabrique de souvenirs »  the memory machine was created by Saphi, a composer of experimental music who lives in Tours. The artist emphasises words propensity to disappear as soon as they have been uttered. As soon as they are spoken, they slip away from us! Unfortunately we hardly hear them at all. Sounds chime within our ears like many echoes. Therefore, Saphi, chose to create a machine meant to make our words ring. The visitors of the Gardens of le Rivau will be able to create the echo of their own words.
